Harvey Mack Hernden, February 4, 2009

(1916-2009) - Mack passed away quietly with his family beside him on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in Palliative Care at the SAH Plummer Site. Husband of the late Rossie Rose for 43 years, the parents of Judy McKay (Dan), Linda Reid (Jim), Susan Kennedy (Les) and Jim Hernden (late Ursula). Husband of Doreen for 20 years. Son of the late Eliza May McLennan and John Wesley Hernden. Grandfather of Lorie Gill (Dean), the late Kelly Reid, Heather Hurley (Chris), Brian Reid (Rosa), Danny Reid (Avy), David Reid (Stacey), Jill Lillington (Ryan), Greg Kennedy, Stefanie Hernden and Jamie Lynn Hernden. Great Grandfather of Caleb, Jordan and Grace Hurley, Hannah Reid, Jared and Riley Hernden. Brother of seven siblings having predeceased him: Alice Shaule, Mary, Tom and Jack Hernden, Millie Singleton, Ida and Hector Hernden. Mack was a WWII Veteran having served his country in France, Belgium and the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 64 years, a long standing member of the Elks and the Steelton Senior Centre and also the International Order of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed his last three years at Collegiate Heights Retirement Residence. He retired from the Algoma Central Railway after 40 years of service as conductor on the Agawa Tour Train and on freight service. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 12 pm until time of the funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm. Major Paul Wood officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Donations to the Salvation Army or the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be appreciated by the family.
